HOW ACQUIRED:

 

Drafted with the 31st pick in the fourth round (128) of the 2006 NFL Draft. First player chosen from Ohio State since 1997 (Shawn Springs). Fourth Buckeye drafted by Seahawks.

 

 

 

NFL CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:


● Missed 15 games in 2008 after being placed on injured reserve (pectoral muscle) on September 10.

 

● Part of offensive line that helped team rush for 2007 season high 167 yards at Atlanta (12/30/07).

 

● Started all four playoff games during his first two seasons and helped Shaun Alexander rush for 108 yards and two touchdowns in the NFC Divisional Playoff his rookie year at Chicago (1/14/06)

 

● Made NFL debut replacing Chris Gray (knee) in the third game of the 2006 season vs. the New York Giants (9/24/06) as line did not allow a sack.

COLLEGE:

Started 40 of 47 games for the Buckeyes, earning 12 of those starts at left guard. Shifted to position prior to senior sea- son earning All-Big Ten Conference first-team honors. Made 28 starts at left tackle as an underclassmen. Produced 83 key blocks and eight touchdown-resulting blocks for an offense that collected 5,068 yards, an average of 422.8 yards per game his senior year. His ability to shut down the blitz and stunts saw the offensive line allow only 18 quarterback sacks for the season. Took over left tackle duties when incumbent Ivan Douglas was sidelined with health problems (blood clot) during soph- omore season.

 

 

 

PERSONAL:

The son of the late Cleveland Browns tackle Mickey Sims (1977-79). Was a first-team All-Ohio selection at offensive tackle during senior season at Nordonia High School. Started at guard as a sophomore and junior before moving to tackle his senior season. Also earned letters in basketball and two in track, finishing fourth in state in the shot put as
a senior. Communications major.
